The first successful Heart Surgey to five (5) patients in Katsina State.

On behalf of the combined staff of General Amadi Rimi Specialist Hospital (GARSH), Katsina and the Federal Teaching Hospital, Katsina, I wish to express our profound gratitude and appreciation to the Katsina State Government and the Pace4Life Foundation for sponsoring and hosting a highly successful Cardiac Pacemaker Mission, the first of its kind at General Amadi Rimi Specialist Hospital, Katsina.

The Katsina State Government, under the able leadership of His Excellency Mallam Dikko Umar Radda, PhD, procured a brand-new, state-of-the-art C-arm machine for the procedure and also provided the necessary logistics to facilitate the mission. Pace4Life Foundation generously supplied all the implants, accessories, consumables, and expert personnel that made the mission possible.

During the three-day mission, the following remarkable achievements were recorded:

  • Successful implantation of three dual pacemakers in patients with complete heart block.
  • Implantation of two implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) in patients with advanced heart failure.
  • Practical training of two cardiologists on pacemaker/ICD implantation and two cardiac physiologists on programming procedures.

We are especially grateful to the mission team members, Dr. Emmanuel Edafe, Dr. Iseko Iseko, and Mr. Victor, for their excellent work and high-quality on-the-job training.

We also deeply appreciate the combined efforts of the Katsina State Ministry of Health and the Katsina State Hospital Services Management Board (KT-HSMB) under the leadership of Hon. Commissioner Musa Adamu Funtua and Dr. Sabiu Liadi, as well as the Medical Director of GARSH, Dr. Auwal Sani, and his management team, whose commitment and support ensured the success of this landmark mission.

Dr. Muhammad Nazir Shehu,
Ag. General Manager,
Katsina State Hospital Services Management Board.
